The parents Hermann
Einstein (August 30, 1847 to October 10, 1902) and Pauline Einstein, born Koch
(February 8, 1858 to February 20, 1920, born in Cannstatt, Württemberg; died in
Berlin), came from both Jewish families who had been resident in the Swabian
region for centuries. The maternal grandparents had changed their surname
Dörzbacher to Koch. The paternal grandparents still had traditional Jewish
names, Abraham and Hindel Einstein. That changed with Albert Einstein's parents.
